Okay, there are some great places and wonderful programs which unfortunately are not cheap. How do you address drug and/or alcohol dependency on a budget?

Beyond the obvious that the person has to have a desire and good friends who have compassionate understanding of it, what do you suggest?

I have never really had a drug and alcohol problem, more things like battle with Clinical Depression. As a musician I sure saw my share of it and sadly most every one involved in that way I know is now dead. It is not a trivial thing to battle.

The bestplace tostart that is totally free would be any number of 12-Step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Crystal Meth Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous.

There are plenty of rehab facitilites in the state the are state funded. The New Arizona Family, EVAC are a couple that I know of. Also, there are many sober living facilites that will point you in the right direction to name a few. Good luck.

It has become more personal with an individual I know being drunk and disorderly. He traumatized my daughter and humiliated his to the point where she wishes to never see him again.

I have told him clearly he must address the issue or I can not afford proximity. Very sad to have to do this, but really a necessity. I am sufficiently pissed off at the moment I can't afford to be near him for a few weeks.

Addiction is a devastating thing and I commend anyone who has resolved to address it seriously. It is truly frightening how all that one might normally value or celebrate is sacrificed for that condition. Even the choices of mindset not involving drugs or alcohol can have similarly disasterous results. Again I celebrate and commend those who now choose wisely.

Yes, it is quite a journey to recovery and sometimes it takes friends like you to light a fire under their ass. Most addicts/alcoholice don't ever ask for help until it is too late. Even though you need the distance right now I plead with you not to turn your back on your friend...he needs you more than ever...if only you can forgive him. I'm not saying to open your doors entirely to him but at least let him know that there is help out there and that perhaps you are willing to help him find it. Granted it will be his decison but that fire is sometimes heard louder than you may think! His behavior is unacceptable and by all means let him know that, after all you can't reward him for that. Just let him know that you are scared for him and that a part of you still cares for him...in the meantime keeping your space. Hope this helps.
